Project Updates
Construction in front of the terminal has required lane closures. Construction equipment and other activity should be expected when arriving or departing from ALB. Please give yourself extra time when traveling and arrive at the airport no less than TWO HOURS prior to scheduled departure. Please also follow signage and directions from security personnel or law enforcement when navigating around the construction.
- Scaffolding has been erected inside the terminal near ticketing counters as part of construction activities. If you're checking bags or speaking with airline personnel, continue to use designated lines and instructions from personnel.
- PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE CLOSED - Please note that access to and from north parking garage via the pedestrian bridge is now closed. Those parking in the parking garage will need to access the terminal from the first floor and cross the street near car rental and baggage claim. Signage has been placed throughout the terminal to direct passengers to the appropriate stairwells and elevator. Passengers leaving the terminal wishing to access the north garage should follow designated signage and enter from the crosswalk near baggage claim. From this location, passengers will enter the same stairwell and elevators mentioned above.
- December 19, 2023: The queing platform constructed near TSA is now open. The queing platform is intended for passengers who are lining up to enter the TSA security checkpoint.
- December 27, 2023: Temporary walls required for construction activities will soon begin to be errected at the already closed pedestrian bridge and other areas throughout the terminal. More info to follow.
- January 2, 2024: Passengers can expect to see temporary walls beginning to be erected today inside the terminal. The first of the temporary walls will be constructed near the entrance to the already closed pedestrian bridge where the old Dunkin and Deli were once located. Shortly after, other temporary walls will be erected on both the lower and upper levels of the terminal.
- January 9, 2024: Beginning tonight, Tuesday, January 9th at 6:00 p.m., there will be a temporary lane shift in front of the terminal while construction crews are doing selective demolition on the pedestrian bridge. The lanes will return back to their original configuration at 3:00 a.m. The same will also occur on Wednesday, January 10th from 6:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. During the lane shift, vehicles will still arrive in front of the terminal at the normal location and exit at the normal location onto Albany Shaker Road. Personnel and signage will be onsite to assist with traffic control during the temporary lane shift.
- January 9, 2024: More temporary walls will soon be constructed throughout both the first and second levels of the terminal, including the area where passengers typically exit airside and reunite with family members and loved ones.
- January 9, 2024: Those awaiting arriving passenger will now need to wait in baggage claim. Benches have been placed throughout that area for your comfort while you wait for them to arrive.
- January 9, 2024: Please note that the escalator and stairwell from baggage claim is scheduled to close late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning due to construction activities. All passengers will need to use the escalators near ticketing to access both the first and second levels of the terminal. Personnel will be placed throughout the area to assist and direct you. There has been no changes in access to the terminal elevator at this time.
- January 16, 2024: The pedestriatian bridge is tentaviely scheduled to be removed on Thursday, January 18th and Friday, January 19th either between 8PM-10PM or 1:30 AM to 2:30 AM. Please visit the Newsroom for more info.
- January 16, 2024: Temproary walls continue to be erected on both levels of the terminal and the escaltor near baggae claim will be closing very soon. The elevator remains open.
- January 17, 2024: The escalators and stairs to and from the baggae claim area are no longer available for use. These closures are required as part of the project. Please use the escalators near ticketing. Personnel will be available to passengers. The elevator is still available for use.
- January 17, 2024: Area on second level where people typically wait for arrival is no longer available. The "Meet and Greet" area will now be on the first level near baggage claim.
- January 30, 2024: The area of the north parking garage commonly referred to as the "rotunda," will be removed beginning on Wednesday, January 31st. Please note that some parking spots on all levels near the southwest corner will be closed to prevent any risk of property damage during the demolition. Aside from those few spots being unavailable, there will be no impact to passengers arriving or departing from the airport. All driving lanes in front of the terminal will also remain open for passenger pick-up and drop-off.
- January 30, 2024: Temporary walls, specifically high wall construction, will continue throughout the terminal. Please follow signage inside the terminal to help direct you.
- February 4, 2024: Sections of the sidewalk in front of the terminal will be closed beginning Monday, February 5th for contstruction activities. Fencing will be erected in these areas and certain vestibules will be closed. Please continue to follow signage around closures.
- February 20, 2024: Beginning at approximately 7AM on Wednesday, February 21st, pick up and drop off lanes in front of the terminal will shift to one lane. This is due to excavation activites that will be taking place. Please note that vestibules will remain oipen at this time and there should be minimal impact to passenger pick up and drop off.
- March 5, 2024: The ALB Information Desk has been moved. It is now directly across from carousel #2 in baggage claim and directly adjacent to Dunkin.
- March 11, 2024: Demolition on the canopies in front of the main terminal is expected to begin on Monday, March 18th. As a result, certain areas of the sidewalk will be closed. Some vestibules will also be closed. Follow signage to navigate closures.
- March 11, 2024: Beginning soon, those dropping off or picking up passeners in front of the main terminal should be advised that due to construction activities, the driving lanes will shift. The driving lane will shift to the former commercial lane near the north parking garage. Please follow security personnel and signage.
- April 4, 2024: The driving lane has officially shifted to the old commercial lane. Please continue to follow security personnel and signage.
- April 4, 2024: Demolition has begun on the front of the building, beginning with the canopies. This will be a lengthy process that has resulted in sidewalks and vestibules being closed.
- April 10, 2024: Selective demo and preparations have begun on the facade for complete removal. This will take weeks to complete. As a result, certain vestibules remain closed.
- April 21, 2024: Lane shift in front of the terminal has now been split to allow for additional pick-up and drop off at the north end of the roadway neat baggage claim. Additional traffic, including shuttles and rental cars should continue to bear left at split. Security personnel on site.
- June 27, 2024: Driving lanes in front of the main terminal have again shifted. Motorists should continue to follow signage and security personnel. Pick-up and drop-off curbside is still permitted. Shuttle pick-up is now located curbside near the exit by baggage claim.
- October 16, 2024: Improvements have been made to driving lanes in front of the main terminal. A third driving lane has been created in front of passenger pick-up and drop-off near airline ticketing. ALL THRU TRAFFIC SHOULD USE LEFT LANE.
- The former commerical lane across from the baggage claim exit is now open for shuttles. All passengers who need the E-Lot Shuttle or hotel shuttles should walk across street from baggage claim. Please follow signage and security.
- Please be advised that beginning on Friday, November 15th at 7AM, construction crews will be conducting activities directly above the small walkway from baggage claim to airline ticketing. As a result, temporary closures on the walkway will need to take place to ensure the safety of all passengers, guests, and airport personnel. Please note that closures are not anticipated to last more than FOUR MINUTES each time a closure is necessary. Once work is complete, the walkway will immediately be opened back up. Please follow directions from security and construction personnel who will be onsite during the activities.
- AVOID POSSIBLE DELAYS - Those parked in the north parking garage, short term parking, or long term parking, may wish to utilize the crosswalk near the terminal’s ticketing entrance and walk around the construction site to access their parking areas. Security personnel will be onsite to assist those who wish to use this option during terminal walkway closures.
