Thousands Expected to Pass Through Albany International Airport During Spring Break Travel Period

Travelers Urged to Plan Ahead, Be Prepared, and Arrive Early

ALBANY, NY (March 17, 2023) – Albany International Airport (ALB) is gearing up to welcome additional air travelers during the Spring Break travel period and offering a reminder of some simple steps passengers can take to ensure a smooth, safe, and hassle-free travel experience.

With thousands already passing through ALB daily, this popular travel period, which runs through Easter, is expected to bring a marked increase in arrivals and departures at the airport.

“The dedicated team at ALB is more than ready to accommodate a surge in travelers,” said Steven Smith, Director of Communications at Albany International Airport. “We are committed to doing everything we can to ensure all our visitors have a positive airport experience. But we’re also asking that passengers be mindful of the need to plan ahead – especially given ongoing construction at ALB.”

Travelers planning to fly out of ALB are reminded of the following:

  • All travelers are urged to arrive at the airport no less than TWO HOURS prior to their flight’s scheduled departure. Doing so will allow ample time to park; check bags, if necessary; go through the security checkpoint and arrive at the departure gate before boarding begins.
  • Consider using alternate transportation to and from the airport. This will alleviate the need to find parking and save time.
  • Check- in early - either online or by using your airline’s mobile app. Doing so makes your airport experience smoother - especially if you don’t check baggage.
  • Have all your documentation readily available, including identification, your boarding pass, and any other pertinent documents.
  • Before packing, please visit www.tsa.gov to find out which items are prohibited from having in either your carry-on or checked luggage. Be sure also to check prohibited amounts of liquids, gels, creams, pastes, or aerosols.
  • Traveling with children? Make sure there are no prohibited items in their luggage.
  • Consider TSA PreCheck to speed up the security check point experience. Learn more at www.tsa.gov.
  • Make sure you know your gate number. This information should be on your boarding pass, but you can ask airline personnel, airport staff or check an arrival/departure monitor inside the terminal.

As construction on ALB’s terminal expansion project continues both inside and outside of the main terminal. Travelers are reminded of the following:

  • Passengers who park in the North Parking Garage must access both the garage and main terminal from the FIRST LEVEL near car rental and baggage claim. Signage has been placed throughout the garage and terminal to direct passengers to appropriate stairwells and elevators.
  • Lanes in front of the terminal are reduced and soon will shift due to construction activities in front of the main terminal. If you’re picking up or dropping off passengers, please follow directions from on-site security personnel and signage.
  • Curbside parking in front of the terminal is NEVER permitted. This area in front of the terminal is for pick-up and drop off only. Those picking up or dropping off passengers are asked to do so quickly to avoid causing traffic delays.
  • Picking up someone? Please consider waiting in the short-term parking lot until your passenger arrives curbside.
  • Those picking up passengers are also asked to utilize the cell phone/observation lot on Albany Shaker Road. Drivers may wait in that lot until their passenger is curbside then proceed to quickly pick them up in front of the terminal.
