Terry Slade: Orbit

The repetition of orbital and elliptical forms in Terry Slade’s work speaks to his observation of these as fundamental patterns in nature and art that transcend time and space. Through fused glass sculptures and works on paper, the artist expresses his long-held interest in what can be seen with both a telescope and a microscope. These cosmic and atomic vantage points have led him to reflect upon the origin and persistence of life, and pursue an investigation into the mark-and-monument-making of early humans. As our molecular structures connect to and echo the clusters of remote galaxies, so too the images and contours shaped by artists today are linked across millennia to the carvings and configurations made by people long ago.
